How my passion deveolped into an obsession....
As a youngster I was fortunate to have a father that took my brother and I hunting and fishing as much as possible. I started fishing and hunting at a very young age. Early on the outdoors intrigued me.
I was bow hunting by myself on my mother's farm by the age of 12. I remember countless times that my brother or one of my friends would pack me across the river so the water would not go over my boots. We stayed out on the farm from daylight to dark in the summer. the only time we would take a break was when we heard mom yell "supper."
As I grew into my teenage years I began to go hiking with my father and started noticing the flyfishermen along the streams. I really wanted to try it but it wasn't until college that I bought my first fly rod.
During my student teaching I met a great guy and mentor who taught me the basics of casting and tying. He was a great teacher as well as a FFF fly casting instructor/master fly tier. In our down time he showed me the basics and I took it and ran.
I would go home in the evenings and fish the farm ponds for bluegill and practice technigues. As time went on I began to take the trip to the cumberland and use the trial and error method with a little studying and reading. After a few months I started to catch some nice trout and man was I hooked.
Today I have my own boat and we float an awesome section of the cumberland. The fishing is great and the scenery and stories are even better.
